Get Connected with Your Purpose

The United Methodist Church believes that everyone is “specially gifted to play a unique and valued role in the body of Christ. No one is without gift or purpose.” In fact, the Bible lists a variety of spiritual gifts that God entrusts with each of us in varying degrees (See Romans 12, Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12–13). As we become aware of our gifts and begin to use them, our lives take on greater purpose and clarity. We begin to find greater meaning in our living. First United Methodist Church wants you to find God’s purpose for your life. Consider these ways of exploring your God-given gifts:

  • Racial Justice Ministry

First UMC is now offering multiple opportunities to engage with our community and educate ourselves on issues of racial inequality and injustice. Please review the information below and prayerfully consider your involvement in the activities, events, programs, and educational opportunities that are provided. It is our hope to keep this page updated with events, opportunities, and information that best facilitate our mission in transforming the world through making disciples of Jesus Christ. Please contact Katy Brandt, Chair of our Witness Team, with any suggestions, updates, or corrections.

  • Service Opportunities In First UMC

We are a growing community!  There are many ways to get involved within First UMC.

  • Service Opportunities in The Community

First UMC members serve in the Charlottesville community in a wide variety of ways, but we are always looking for new ways to demonstrate the hospitality, love, and grace of Jesus Christ. If you have any new ideas about how we can better serve our community please contact Katy Brandt - the Chairperson of our Witness Ministry Team, or Cindy Remington - the Chairperson of our Outreach Ministry Team
