At First UMC, we strive to provide programs where children experience God's love in action and find guidance in sharing God's Word with others. Our goal is to provide a loving and accepting environment. For more information about our Children's Ministry programs, please contact Alex Erwine, our Director of Discipleship for Youth & Children.

We offer a full program for all ages from infants through 5th grade, including:

Regular Sunday Mornings

Worship - We invite and encourage children to attend any service. There are usually children's bulletins and activity bags located at the entrance to each service. Please speak to an usher about obtaining one of these bags and please return the bags to their original location, but feel free to keep all booklets or sheets that were used during the service.

First Kids! During the 8:30 am worship service, children 3 years old through 2nd grade may attend First Kids! Children start in the worship service with their parents. Following the children’s message part of the service, they will be dismissed together to First Kids! First Kids is held in Room 308 on the 3rd floor.

SONshine Singers – led by Carolyn McGee, is a singing ensemble for children ages 3 - 10 that meets from 9:15 – 9:45 am in Room 308 (on the 3rd floor). They participate in a program during Advent and occasionally sing during services throughout the year. Participation in this group gives children an opportunity to take a leadership role in our worship services. It gives the children a sense of responsibility for the ministry of the church and helps them identify with the traditional, blended, and contemporary forms of worship as they grow to adulthood. A choir is a like a team with a common goal; the qualities of promptness, self-control, cooperation, and commitment must be developed in the choir members if the group is to accomplish its purpose of praising the Lord. And praising the Lord is what we do! When children sing about Bible stories and scripture, they remember it for a lifetime. Reflecting on the message of the song as they sing, instills an understanding of spiritual truths and knowledge of God.

Sunday School - 9:45 am to 10:45 am for children ages three through 5th grade. Our curriculum program incorporates Bible stories, activities, crafts, media, and games into a full faith experience for children designed to help children develop skills to unlock the Bible message and grow their faith.
